Celebrate
Our New Library ! ! !
Hi! WELCOME
to the new and improved Malley Drive Elementary School Library.
My name is Kristen Loesel, and I’m the Teacher Librarian.
This is my second year at Malley and I’m just as excited
about this year as I was about last year.
Last
year was full of planning…
How much shelving do we need and where do we put it? Should we
use browser bins or regular shelving for picture books? How many
computers will be in the library and the computer lab? Will we
have a projection system for teaching in the library? And the
toughest question of all was how do we pack all of these books
and materials before May 25th?
This
year is full of excitement…
Malley’s new library has twice as much space as our previous
library! There is a classroom area that will seat 34 people with
a computer, LCD projector and screen for teaching, and all of
the non-fiction books are on the walls surrounding the tables
for student research. There is also a story corner with room for
49 Kindergartners and 1st graders (trust me on that!), and all
of the browser bins full of picture books surround it so that
students can pick a book based on the cover, not the spine. There
is also an information center with 12 computers with access to
World Book Online, EBSCO database and the Internet, a scanner
and a printer right in the center of the library, plus a full
computer lab just off the hallway to the library. Also right off
the hallway is a brand new book room with mobile shelves full
of sets of books, including thousands of books that came from
Wyco’s book room, for teachers to use in guided reading
groups.
So come to the new and improved Malley
Drive Elementary Library, take a peek at the new classroom area,
search the Internet and check out a book. Last year we built better
readers… this year it’s time to get caught reading!

Welcome to the Library!!!
